Research
Nanotechnology is a source of innovation with the potential to create enormous value in many areas of technology. This cross-application technology will therefore play a central role in the competitiveness of all major sectors of industry in the future. Degussa sees nanotechnology as an opportunity to develop new products and efficient solutions that are vital in improving environmental protection, health and product quality.

New Materials
Nanostructures - Degussa’s business units are constantly striving to improve their products, systems solutions, and technologies in their portfolios, for example, improve the UV protection of sunscreen or the scratch-resistance of coatings. Degussa Advanced Nanomaterials, a start-up that has now been integrated into the Aerosil & Silanes Business Unit, focuses on the production of new nanomaterials. More |

Systems based on Nanostructured Layers
Integration - Creavis Technologies & Innovation has brought together all nanotechnology-based projects for highly innovative electronics applications at its Nanotronics Science-to-Business Center. The common feature of all these technologies is that they focus on nanostructured layers which are used, for example, as membranes or functional electrical substrates. Applications include lower-cost solar cells, transparent conductive films, printable electronics and high-performance lithium ion batteries. More |

Sol-gel Technology
Versatile - Sol-gel technology is another focal area of Degussa’s research. The completely new XENIOS sprayable coating system cures to form transparent nanostructured films that are flexible yet withstand mechanical strain. XENIOS is based on hybrid polymers formed principally from oxygen and silicon. Fumed silicas are used in the SiVARA® process, a production method based on sol-gel technology that can produce glass objects in almost any shape. More |
